State report

Best AI SEO & GEO agencies in California

California has more AI SEO agencies headquartered in it than any other state in this directory — and it is also the only state that contains one whose evidence we could not fully stand behind. Volume and verification are not the same thing, and California is where the two come apart.

Researched July 2026 by Harsha Kiran · 4 headquartered in California · 0 with an office here · 11 serving it remotely

Four of the agencies we have researched are headquartered in California: three in San Francisco, one in Irvine. That is the largest local bench anywhere in this index, and if you were building a shortlist purely on proximity you would stop reading here. We would rather you didn't. Three of those four hold up well under cross-checking — named clients, review volume that matches their claimed size, case figures with dates attached. The fourth does not, and we have labelled it accordingly rather than quietly letting the state's headline number carry it. That is the whole argument of this page: the densest market is also the one where "they're local and there are lots of them" does the most damage as a selection method.

Who actually buys AI SEO in California

California's demand is really two markets with very little overlap. The Bay Area buyer is a venture-funded software company, often post-Series B, with an in-house growth team that has already run SEO competently for years and is now watching AI answers absorb the top of its funnel. They buy sophistication and they interrogate methodology hard. Southern California — Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego — is a broader commercial market: ecommerce, consumer brands, healthcare, professional services, and a large mid-market that is buying full-funnel performance marketing with AI search as one line inside it, not as a standalone engagement. An agency built for the first buyer will frequently underwhelm the second, and the reverse is just as true, which is why the Irvine and San Francisco listings on this page are not interchangeable despite sharing a state.

Concentrated in: B2B SaaS and enterprise software (Bay Area), Ecommerce and consumer brands (Southern California), Healthcare, fintech and professional services. Headquarters here include Apple, Alphabet, Salesforce, Adobe, Netflix, Intuit.

Directive Consulting

Irvine, founded 2014 · GEO since ~2024

Full-service with AI/GEO practice HQ in California
Named clients + case study ★ 4.8 (Clutch, 56 reviews)

Directive's strength is breadth and consistency — a steady 4.5-to-4.8-star Clutch record is one of the sturdiest track records we found, echoed by positive (if thinner) reviews on G2 and DesignRush, and the eSub case study is one of the only ones in this whole research project that discloses an actual retainer figure alongside its result. GEO itself is a newer, thinner part of the story here: it's one line item inside a decade-old methodology built and proven mostly around paid media and traditional SEO, so ask specifically for AI-citation evidence rather than assuming it's as mature as everything else they do.

Scalerrs

San Francisco · GEO since Built-in, recent rebrand

Full-service with AI/GEO practice HQ in California
Named clients + extensive case studies ★ 5.0 (Clutch, 5 reviews); no G2 rating found

Scalerrs has one of the clearest AI-search positions in this set — treating Google, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Reddit, Wikipedia, and YouTube as one connected surface rather than bolting AI onto classic SEO. Named case studies back it up with real numbers: Pabau's 13,179 AI citations in three months, and AutoRFP's $1.5M organic pipeline. A 5.0 rating across 5 Clutch reviews is strong, if small. The catch: nearly all the evidence is self-published, and there's no G2 profile to cross-check against.

Victorious has the most complete public paper trail of anyone we researched: 119 Clutch reviews plus a separate G2 rating, a live dashboard clients can actually watch instead of waiting for a monthly PDF, and case studies with real percentage lifts attached to real company names. It's also priced like it — a roughly $6,000 monthly floor keeps this out of reach for smaller budgets. If you can clear that bar, the amount of independently checkable evidence here is hard to beat.

First Page Sage

San Francisco, founded 2009 · GEO since 2023

Full-service with AI/GEO practice HQ in California
Published framework, mixed reviews ★ 2.0 (Flexable, 42 reviews)

First Page Sage has a genuine claim to being early — a published GEO framework since 2023, and a client list (Microsoft, Salesforce, US Bank) that most peers can't match. But the independent reviews we found don't back up the AI-search side of the story as cleanly as the client roster suggests: a 4 out of 10 GEO-execution score from one reviewer, and a 2.0 out of 5 rating from another, both specifically about AI-search work rather than their broader SEO reputation. Worth asking directly how they measure and report AI citations before signing a 6-to-12-month commitment.

Full-service with AI/GEO practice Remote · serves California
Named AI-search results + extensive case studies no Clutch rating found; no G2 rating found

Breaking B2B has the deepest bench of named case studies of any agency in this set — seven or more specific, named clients, each with concrete numbers: demo counts, traffic percentages, ranking positions, deals closed. Several tie directly to AI-search discovery, like prospects citing ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. Pricing is unusually public too: four tiers from $4,000 to $20,000+/month with a 90-day sprint contract. The catch: no Clutch or G2 profile exists, and its own "best agency" roundup articles rank itself first — the same self-promotional pattern this site exists to flag, and the second agency we've found doing exactly this.

iPullRank

Brooklyn, founded 2014 · GEO since ~2024

Full-service with AI/GEO practice Remote · serves California
Named clients + case study no Clutch rating found; no G2 rating found; no DesignRush rating found

iPullRank reads as the most technically serious operation in this group, and it's not a coincidence — founder Mike King has been publishing original research on retrieval and embeddings since before most competitors had a GEO page at all. The client roster (Target, Adidas, American Express) and the case study dollar figures back that reputation up convincingly. What it isn't is an easy on-ramp: pricing is entirely custom, and the whole practice is built for teams with real technical complexity to solve, not a quick content refresh.

Minuttia

Thessaloniki, Greece, founded 2020 · GEO since ~2024–25

Full-service with AI/GEO practice Remote · serves California
Named clients + case study Clutch, 16 reviews

Minuttia is unusually well-corroborated for a company this size — multiple independent review and comparison sites, not just Minuttia's own marketing, confirm real proprietary AI-visibility tracking tools. The Toggl case study (7M impressions, 27K clicks, 200+ conversions) is specific, and one independent no-agency-to-sell review site singled Minuttia out as unusually transparent about results. One competing AI-tracking vendor disputes the tooling claim, though that source has an obvious conflict of interest. The practical catch: pricing isn't published and takes a sales call to pin down.

Named clients + case study Clutch, 1 review; no Other aggregators rating found

NoGood is genuinely rare in this set for having built its own measurement product — Goodie tracks citations and sentiment across four major LLMs in real time, which is more infrastructure than most agencies bother with. But the number everyone quotes about them, a 335% jump in AI-sourced traffic, comes from Goodie's own case study, not an outside source, and only one review turned up anywhere online despite a client list that includes Oura and Procter & Gamble. Ask for references before treating that number as settled.

Omniscient's pitch is unusually specific for this space: "Surround Sound SEO" was built to make a brand visible across every high-intent answer, not just rank one, and the Gumlet case study is the clearest example we found anywhere of AI discovery actually tied to CRM-tracked revenue. The catch is that independent verification hasn't caught up to the client roster — third-party review volume stays thin across every platform we checked. Worth talking to references directly given how thin that trail is.

Austin, founded 2019 · GEO since ~2024–25

Full-service with AI/GEO practice Remote · serves California
Fortune 100 clients + Technical SEO pioneer ★ 5.0 (Clutch, 19 reviews); no G2 rating found

Onely is one of the most independently verified agencies in this entire set — 19 Clutch reviews at a perfect 5.0, a track record that predates AI search by half a decade, and a founder, Bartosz Góralewicz, whose JavaScript SEO research is credited with influencing how Google itself handles JS-rendered sites. Its GEO work extends technical SEO rather than bolting AI on top: fix crawlability and structured data first, then layer AI visibility work on. Named clients include eBay, IKEA, G2, and Realtor.com. SeoProfy has one of the longer, more credible AI-search track records in this set — founder Victor Karpenko says the agency has been testing AI tactics since 2022, earlier than most peers, backed by real published research on AI Overviews visibility. Named case studies hold up too, including a 209% organic traffic lift and a 10x increase in website visitors for two different clients. The thing worth flagging directly: their own blog ranks themselves among "top GEO agencies" and cites a 4.9/5 rating across 450 Clutch reviews — but the actual Clutch page shows well under 100 reviews, and G2 shows zero.

Named clients + case study ★ 4.9 (Clutch, 46 reviews); ★ 5.0 (G2, 5 reviews)

Siege Media built its reputation the slow way — twelve years of content and digital PR work before GEO was a category worth naming — and that patience shows in case studies with real, large dollar figures attached to named clients. It's also the best-reviewed agency in this set by a clear margin across two separate platforms, which counts for something. The one thing worth asking about directly: clients describe monthly reporting rather than live access to the data, so if you want to watch results move in real time, that's a conversation to have upfront.

Skale is run by operators, not agency lifers — both co-founders built SEO in-house at Typeform and TravelPerk before starting the agency, and that shows in how tightly everything ties back to MRR instead of traffic. The deBridge case study is the most specific GEO-only result we found in this entire research project, with real citation and mention percentages attached to a named client. Its "Managed AI Overview Mastery" methodology is genuinely named, built around concepts like Entity Differentiation rather than generic GEO language. The standout proof: founder Alva Chew tested it on his own AI product, AeroChat, which reportedly got cited by AI Overviews, Perplexity, and ChatGPT Search within six weeks. The gap: most AI-specific evidence is self-published, and there's no G2 profile.

Questions California buyers actually ask

California has the most agencies — does that make it the best place to hire from?

No, and treating it that way is the specific mistake this page exists to flag. Density tells you where an industry formed, not where the strongest individual firm is. The single most independently verified agency in this directory is not in California, and one of the four that is here carries our "mixed" proof rating. Use the state page to see who is nearby, then choose on evidence — named clients in your industry, review volume proportionate to team size, figures with dates.

What does a "mixed" proof rating actually mean?

It means the agency's own claims are clear but the independent confirmation is thinner than we would want before calling it strong — for example a review profile whose volume or score does not match the scale of what is being claimed, or case studies without verifiable client names or dates. It is not an accusation of dishonesty and it is not a quality score. It is a statement about what we could confirm from outside. We publish it rather than rounding it up, which is the entire reason this directory exists.

Is there a real difference between a Bay Area and a Southern California agency?

In practice, yes, and it is about who they were built to serve rather than geography. The San Francisco agencies here are calibrated to software companies with in-house growth teams and price accordingly. The Orange County listing is a full-funnel B2B performance shop where AI search sits inside a much broader remit spanning paid media, SEO and revenue operations. If you want one vendor across channels, that is a genuinely different proposition from hiring a search specialist, and worth deciding before you take meetings.

Do California agencies charge more because of California costs?

Published minimums among the California agencies here run from roughly $5,000 to $20,000 per month, with hourly rates where disclosed in the $100–149 band. That is broadly the same range as the Austin agencies in this directory and lower at the entry point than several of them. These firms price against a national market of buyers, not against their own rent — the cost-of-living theory of agency pricing does not survive contact with the actual numbers.

Should a Los Angeles or San Diego company hire one of these?

Possibly, but not because of the drive. None of the four California agencies here is HQ'd in LA or San Diego, and all of them work remotely regardless, so "in California" buys you a shared timezone and nothing more. Weight industry fit first. A consumer ecommerce brand in LA is often better served by an agency elsewhere with deep ecommerce evidence than by the nearest B2B SaaS specialist.

How often do you re-check the California listings?

Periodically, and specifically when something changes that would move a rating — a new case study, a shift in review volume, a change in published pricing or positioning. Proof ratings are not permanent. The agency currently rated "mixed" here can move to "strong" by publishing what is missing, and any listing can move the other way. Every profile shows when it was last researched so you can judge how fresh the assessment is.
